Stock offers: surplus food and drink lots for UK trade buyers

What a stock offer is

A UK supplier — a manufacturer, importer, wholesaler or retailer — has a whole lot to clear: surplus, an over-order, a discontinued line, short-dated stock or a cancelled contract. Rather than listing it themselves on the auction board, they offer it to us and we broker it: we write an anonymised lot, put it to verified trade buyers, collect offers until the closing time and take the result back to the supplier. ClearanceFood is the disclosed agent; the sale is between the supplier and the buyer.

Lots are priced per pallet, per case, per unit or for the whole lot, as the lot page says, and excluding VAT unless the page says otherwise. Quantities are shown as a band on these pages; the exact count, location and best-before date are shown to verified buyers after login.

How a round works

1. The lot opens with a closing time. Verified UK businesses place offers on the buyers' board.
2. Every buyer sees the leading total and whether they are leading — never who is leading. An offer placed in the final 5 minutes adds 2 minutes to the close, so other buyers have time to respond.
3. At close the offers are put to the supplier. Where the reserve is met they choose on price and conditions and need not accept the highest; below it only the leading offer can be put to them, and they may accept none.
4. On acceptance the buyer and supplier are introduced, payment and handover are arranged as the lot page set out (collection, delivery or either), and the lot is marked cleared.
